Does anybody sell replacement hood hinge nuts that are to be welded into the cab on a 61-66 F100s ? I bought a 63 and some of the hood bolt holes are missing the factory threads. Thanks.
Here's pictures of that area on my truck. Can you tell which one has been replaced? It's the best looking one of the bunch. Second picture middle one. No welding required. There are a few different tools available to set them. They are called "Threaded Inserts" and are not at all specific to our trucks.
Those are crimp nuts that were put in before the body panels were assembled. I don't believe they ever were available. The only way to get to them from the inside is to drill the fresh air box off. Not an option for most folks. If yours are still tight and only the threads are bad, and cannot be rethreaded, I would try a Heli coil. You might want to put a tack weld or two on them to keep them from breaking loose and spinning.
Thanks , I will buy a set like the picture. Once the hinge is on it is unseen. I could have welded a nut from the back but wanted an easier way.Thank you.
Ibuildmyown: You don't need to spend all that $$ for a whole set, or for the installation tool if you feel this is not something that will get used regularly. All you need to buy is the Threaded Insert, Rivnut (pick a name
Have a look @ this vid, he shows two methods, I've been using the second one since 1979. The only thing he mentioned that I don't agree with is using an impact to "pull up" the insert. Yah, you might save a few seconds of time, but I've always felt that by hand is better, without the risk of damaging the threads on the insert. But that's not my call for others.

I got the old nuts out. Used 3/8" 16 flange nuts. Put nickel anti- seize on a bolts. Used bolt to hold nut in hole of firewall. Hex of nut centered nut in hole. Tig welded nut to fire wall after making sure it was level or slightly below surface. Ground weld Flush. Anti-seize kept bolt from sticking to nut threads. Hinge holes aligned fine.
