Got the hood on my 49 f-1 but can not get it to align with the dowl. Used the shop manual for guidence but nothing. The dowl appears to be to far foward. When it closes it must be unbolted at the hood bracket to release.Than start over. Any ideas??
How wide is the gap at the back where the hood meets the cab/cowl? Maybe the whole hood can be moved forward a little? The hinges are adjustable where they bolt to the cab...

The gap at the rear(cowl)is good. When the hood closes it seems to go forward, past the dowel. I adjusted the bolts three different times, same result. Just thought someone might have an idea, similar situation.
Is the point of the hood pin going too far up into that hole and getting caught on the lip of the latch? IF the rubber bumpers on your hood are worn (or missing), the hood will go too far down on the pin and get caught. Ask me how I know this--it was not pleasant getting my hood to release before I realized my problem.
It seems to me that the hood hinges try to push the hood forward a bit during the initial opening movement.
I can't remember exactly now, but it seemed like when I put my hood on and tried to do some adjusting that it was almost counter-intuitive. Almost like you had to adjust the hood hinges opposite of what you thought to get it to work right.
Check to make sure that your spring hood hinges are installed correctly. There's a left and a right side. Also, the cowl side hood hinges may also be giving you the problem.
With the hood in the down position(not closed)loosened hood mountingbolts,(three on each side)visualy lined the dowel with the hood opening, pushed back toward the cab on the front of hood, pushed down on hood at cowl to make it even, tighten hood mounting bracket bolts, close hood, and it released as it should. Hope this helps somone along the way.
