I'm assembling the doors with all the innards before hanging them. Ordered covered arm rests from Mid Fifty back in May and still haven't arrived. If I continue without the arm rests, will I be removing parts parts later to install them?

I bought armrests upholstered them, but found they interferred with moving the back of bench seat with doors closed. Haven't looked into it further since.
It is the door to my 54. My doors don't have the rectangular mounting holes for the arm rests. It is my understanding from the Mid Fifty catalog that I can drill the necessary screw holes. I'm thinking I will have access if the window regulator is cranked up. If that's not the case I'd be better off just to wait for delivery. Hoping that someone here has experience adding these to an existing door.
The stock mounting for the arm rests uses a rectangular snap in nut to hold the arm rest mounting screws. Drilling a hole and using a metal screw will not survive the force of pulling the door closed with the arm rest. Here is a photo of the door on a 54 showing the two rectangular holes where the nuts snap in place...sorry for the poor photo but it's the only one I have right now. What I would do if I were in your position would be to cut a strip of 1 inch strap steel the length needed to reach both screws and weld two nuts in place to mate with the arm rest mounting screws. Place the arm rest where you want it and drill the holes for the mounting screws. Slide the 1 inch strap piece behind the inside door panel and line up the holes. You can use panel adhesive, pop rivets, or metal screws to hold the strap in place. This will give you a solid mounting site for the arm rest that will never pull out.

Midfifty instructions shown below. My doors did not come with armrest slots and have always been attached with sheet metal screws, well at least the last 40 years. Mine are covered with cloth over a piece of wood that I sanded to shape. I was too cheap to pay the big bucks for new ones.
