I’m looking to buy a new fuel tank, where is a good place online to buy a new one? What is the largest tank size I can get?

I currently have a side mounted one, on my 1986 f150.

 

Largest tank you can get for the side mount is 19 gallon, the same size as the stock tank. If you want to do some modifications, you can buy a larger tank for the rear mount location which is close to 38 gallons. But you will not have a spot for your spare tire underneath anymore.

Shop around, there seems to be two main kinds of tanks. Painted ones from overseas and the tin plated ones from Spectra made in Canada. Just find your favorite supplier and see where you can get the cheapest shipping.

 

He did not say if short bed 16 gallon tank or Long bed 19 gallon.

Those would be the stock sizes for the side tank. I thought we had a post where someone found a larger plastic side tank, like 25 gallon?

 

For a side tank?
Someone was thinking if modding a 16? to make it larger by cutting the ends off and welding larger ones on but think he was only going to get maybe 5 gallons more and the work it took did not pay off.
Other than that I dont know of any larger side tanks to fit the factory location.
