'87 F150 anti-lock woes

I have an '87 f150 with RABS. I used the chilton's troubleshooter to narrow it down to my computer is bad. Does anyone know where I may get a good used anti-lock computer or a good cheap new one or have specs so I can trouble shoot my circuit board and fix my old one.
thank you in advance.

Wow, I had my '91 Safari ABS computer go bad. New at a dealer was close to a $1,500 turn around. My local mechanic found a junkyard unit and got me back out the door for $500 and some change.

Before getting your new computer, did you try disconnecting the battery? This will reset the computer if it is still functioning.

Hey Mustang,

Did you clear your problem or do you still have a bum ABS computer?

I tried resetting the computer by removing neg. battery cable for more than 30 sec. (more like 2 minutes) and hooked it back up. no change, still acts the same - brake and abs lights self test, brake light goes out and stays out but abs light comes back on after about 2 minutes and stays on.

another other ideas?

thank you for all the help so far.

Had the same problem on an 88 Bronco. Turned out to be the two-wire connector that runs from the negative battery post next to the radiator support was corroded internally. Those two light wires are the ground for the ABS and EEC computers. When I tried to disconnect the connector to inspect, it fell apart. After removing the plastic and soldering the wires, problem was gone. HTH

Tried the ground connector last night. Looks like previous owner has replaced them. They are in very good shape. Still no RABS! anyone have more ideas or know where i can get a RABS brain box for not much money? Maybe somebody wrecked one that would still have the RABS box?

thanks for the help so far, guys!

Still need a computer... I believe I have one if I didn't toss it in the trash when I last cleaned my garage....You can have it....got it at a yard for a few bucks a while back....Just to make sure it's the same one, it's a little gold box about 1-1/2 inches thick, about 5-6 inches wide and around 8 inches long, correct? It'll only cost ya the shipping....

have you heard of Standard Ignition Products, also known as "Blue Streak" to the older mechanics? They offer a complete line of reman. computers not limited to just engine computers! You can get ABS,body, trans. and security computers from them.If they don't have one anywhere in the USA ready for shipment, they will R&R (repair & return) your unit usually in about a weeks time! Also, brake product companies such as EIS,Raybestos & Wagner also offer ABS computers.
