Hi Guys! First post and look forward to learning from you guys!
I purchased what the title says is a 1980 Ford Econoline XLT. It ran when we bought it but badly. Long story short is we narrowed it down to a ECM. I sent it off to SIA electronics and they let me know that it was not repairable. 1 of the main problems is this was an MY80 with a MY87 4.9L the ECM has no identifying stickers and the door well sticker is blank. Is there any other suggestions on how I can go about getting or finding a replacement. Also unsure of which automatic transmission I have. Please help guys!
On your drivers door post there should be a calibration code sticker that will look much like this one. The calibration code number on mine is the one circled in red. Yours should be in the same place. The number to the right is the part number for the sticker. With the code number than I can tell you the ECM part number.
I don’t know what makes a PCM so picky but I’d harvest a known good 4.9 PCM and everything known to work with it - ignition module, transmission module, sensors, the lot - for your van.
Then get a custom license plate with the calibration code
