You shouldn’t replace anything without testing. Which transmission? Fluid level and condition? If an E4OD are there any fault codes?

Check the label on the driver side b-pillar, it will list the Trans code. Trans code E = E4OD. Trans code K = C6

fluid was pretty low, but the truck had been sitting for a long time, (about 2 quarts which is a bit for sure)

I've seen C6's working basically fine, without showing anything on the stick. The one in my '75 when I bought it, it shifted just fine, and it took 3qts to get back on the stick.

They're pretty a pretty resilient design. But if you run them low on fluid for too long, they'll burn up clutches just like any slushbox

It is very unlikely to be a sensor issue since this transmission (a C6) does not have any sensors.

It is probably a problem with the vacuum modulator. There is a vacuum line that runs from the engine to the right side rear of the transmission. It plugs into a round can called the vacuum modulator. If the line is broken or missing this will happen. If the vacuum modulator has a damaged diaphragm this will also happen. To check the diaphragm take the vacuum hose off of the modulator. If there is any trans fluid in the modulator or vacuum line the modulator needs to be replaced.

I had ATF siphon from a TH350 into the intake of a buick 350, and then seep out the threads of the intake bolts and then pool next to the carburetor. fun times lol

With the engine idling is the vacuum in the line to the modulator?
