Spotted my first paint bubble from rust. Scraped off a bit and its not too bad. But its the start of a problem obviously. It rusted through to the stupid matting in the rear wheel well and that holds water enough to creat this problem.
Hit the inside with a grinding wheel, clean it up and apply POR25 before maybe body filling that spot to keep it from exposure? All advice welcome.
Need to wire wheel out past those bubbles. Hit the whole area with some phosphoric acid (cement etch from box store, easy to find) keep it wet for 15-20 minutes with the etch. Wash off the etch and dry the area. Tiger hair on back, spot putty the front. Epoxy primer, wet sand, top coat. Por-15 is not going to lay down flat for you to top coat and not see it. Great for chassis not great for finished surfaces.
The only way to fix that is to replace metal with a patch panel. It's rusted from the inside so it will just keep on rusting unless it's replaced. They make really good body glue so you can install a patch panel easily without welding and warping the metal.

yeah, this is what im afraid of. I cant paint match so its going to a body shop no matter what in that regard. I didnt know theirs body glue out there to use… i assume they glue in something as a backer and glue the new panel to that?
They bend a flange for the repair panel. I've done it on my own a few times with good results. As far as a body shop don't be surprised if they say no. A very good friend of mine runs a shop and he no longer will do rust on any brand of truck unless he can replace the box side.
