So when I installed my auto head unit, the dash broke during installation. The little piece that goes in between the radio and the AC controls cracks pretty badly on one corner. Maybe I didn't have it filed down enough for the radio I'm not sure. I'd rather not buy a new dash just to fix this one little spot that cracked so I was thinking of getting some of the dark gray JB weld and filling in the crack and then maybe either touch up painting that spot or, painting the whole sub dash. If I was going to paint the whole thing I would have to really think about it if I wanted to go the same color or not. I don't know how black would look. Then again maybe the JB weld will will harden to almost the exact same color of the dash already is and I won't have to worry about it. That would be nice. Thoughts on potentially different colors to paint the whole sub dash that would still contrast well?
Repairing cracked dashboard plastic is, IMO, a futile attempt. The plastic that it is made of has deteriorated with age and fix it in one place it will just start cracking somewhere else. If this truck is a keeper for you, just find and install a new one. If you can find one. These trucks are getting pretty old now.
