I have a 460 I am building to install in a mid ‘60’s Mercury Truck.
trans options are limited and hard to find in my area.
i have a line on a E4OD from a motorhome with the big cylinder thing on the output shaft.
Can this be easily removed/upgraded to a normal shaft and housing? I do plan on disassembling the trans regardless. Also how much can these trans take HP wise and are they any good??
See pic, thanks for any advice!
That thing is a parking brake. You can remove it, and you'll have a 4x4 transmission ready to accept a transfer case. If you disassemble the transmission you can change the output shaft to a 4x2 shaft if you want a 4x2 transmission.

thanks. I was assuming thats what it was. For $100 I may jump on it
There is one other consideration you should be aware of. The E in E4od = Electronic. You will need the supporting controls to enable it's operation for your project.
Otherwise I suggest you seek out a Ford C6 trans. No computer controls and heavy duty.

Yes, I am also hunting for a C6 if possible. Not a lot of those to be had for big block around here either.
