Had this True Barn find towed home this afternoon! She's an F250 Black/Red 300 six banger. This pickup has been stored in a Barn just down the street from my home since 1996! Rust free!!!!
Barn stored for a long time ='s mice and mice droppings and wiz, and that stuff is just as bad and causes caustic rust. In the floor pans and other areas. They build mouse hotels with all bit of chewed wiring insulation like in the roof seam between the A and B pillar. You will find it when you drop the head liner. Turn on the vent system blower and rat mini biscuits and wiz stink can come at ya.
Fuel tank might as well be dropped and replaced. And that normally means the sending unit too. Take it easy when you work to get it back to DD status and all sorts of seals can start pukeing on you. T stat sticks, tranny pan leaks.
I agree! I was in my late teens when these rolled off the factory floors, I drove many!

She's a solid piece for sure! No rust or dents, nice and straight! Great color combo to boot!
So, I also picked up a '67 Corvette, just a week earlier another true find that had been sitting under a tarp for 22 years. She's all cleaned up and I'm waiting for my tags now!

But ha it is a barn find so enjoy.
Yes mice can be a big issue but so far I only see a small amount of evidence (small nest in the glove box). The barn the truck was in is really the equipment barn, the hay barn is next to it, so there's no food products in the equipment barn to attract the mice. Truck Floors and panels are rust free, that's really the only reason I wanted and bought it.
Thanks for the tips on the seals all true, I will go through everything but leave alone what I can. Going for the stock look.
Which brings up a question, what manufacturers brand tires were installed as stock? I call them Nerd tires normally that came on the trucks and cars as stock, but I'm pretty sure that's what I want.
But he has 16" Dodge rims. So you need a rim that is a 3/4 ton, 8 on 6 1/2" lug pattern. And chevy 3/4, 8 on 6 1/2 ton rims have a smaller center hole. But putting rims that are 16" makes getting tires WAY more easier.

Worst I've seen was my old cab - the little SOBs built a nest above the windshield (above and in front of the headliner) in my old cab, and I think that is what rusted out my roof at the windshield seam. There were even rust holes in the interior panel which the visors attach to.
Oil contamination, and or overheated. The block is probably good for machining, but I imagine the crankshaft is wrecked. Good opportunity to swap to a Windsor engine.
That's too bad. If the block is toast, you can grab a block from anything all the way to '96, which is the last year for the 300. The block will be identical. If it were me, I'd double the horse power of that 300 by adding an Offenhauser C intake and a 4v carb, an msd ignition box and the efi era split exhaust manifolds or a header. That will take you to about 250 hp, and, if you install larger valves and do some bowl work in the head, you'll be moving in the direction of 300 hp. With a nice over-drive transmission, you'll be making 20mpg on the highway, if you keep your foot out of it.
That is what I did with my 360, and I never regretted it. Everyone in the world has a souped up v8. How many people have a hot inline six? Check out this forum: https://fordsix.com/forums/240-300-b...performance.2/
Good luck.
