can anyone tell me if the TFI module from the 2.8 motor will work with the one for the 2.9 motor they look identacle on the outside but wonder if there is a difference on the inside i called the part store and they said its a diff part number but i wonder if thats just for their cataloging anyone have any ideas ?

I gave an extra TFI module that I had for my 84 2.8 to a friend. He installed it on his 86 2.9, and it worked. They both looked to be the same, and I think they had the same part number (memory is dim, though).
I have put the TFI module off my 2.8 on my 2.9. I also keep a spare TFI module at work for when a get a possible module, I will throw it on and see if if it changes the customers complaint. Most time it does. I have had this module on a 2.8, 2.9, and 5.0, it is kind of the Town Module.
Can anyone tell me what size are the screws attaching the module to the distributor? On my 90 B2 2.9L, I can see (using a mirror) that the screws have small hex-heads. So a socket should fit them, but I can't find a socket that will grab on them. I've tried 4mm, 3/16", and 5mm. A 7/32 socket is too large to fit into the back of the module, and these are the only small, deep sockets I can find in town. Anyone have a clue?
This thing left me dead on the road Friday, so I need to get it swapped pronto before the weather gets any warmer.
there is a special tool that is made for removing those i went through the same bs with mine also mine had a plastic cap in the hole that had me baffled for a couple days
good luck with it
