TFI module swap

I gave an extra TFI module that I had for my 84 2.8 to a friend. He installed it on his 86 2.9, and it worked. They both looked to be the same, and I think they had the same part number (memory is dim, though).

TFI module swap

I have put the TFI module off my 2.8 on my 2.9. I also keep a spare TFI module at work for when a get a possible module, I will throw it on and see if if it changes the customers complaint. Most time it does. I have had this module on a 2.8, 2.9, and 5.0, it is kind of the Town Module.

TFI module swap

Can anyone tell me what size are the screws attaching the module to the distributor? On my 90 B2 2.9L, I can see (using a mirror) that the screws have small hex-heads. So a socket should fit them, but I can't find a socket that will grab on them. I've tried 4mm, 3/16", and 5mm. A 7/32 socket is too large to fit into the back of the module, and these are the only small, deep sockets I can find in town. Anyone have a clue?

This thing left me dead on the road Friday, so I need to get it swapped pronto before the weather gets any warmer.

Rich, you can get that special wrench from Sears, or any auto parts store. It is a popular item.
