Working on replacing head gaskets on 1997 f250 with the 7.5 gas motor. Got it torn down to the actual motor but haven’t removed anything but intake manifold and valve covers. Do i need to find tdc before removing rocker arms, push rods and heads. Also if so what is the easiest way with the motor still in the truck and allot of the accessories just unbolted and pull forward out of the way. Funds are tight so im not getting the heads resurfaced. Any tips on getting them extra clean for the reinstall. Appreciate any help i could get. Thanks
There is no need to find TDC before removing the rocker arms, push rods and heads. Upon assembly I do like to install the distributor before installing the valve cover on the #1 side, making it easier to find the correct stroke of the valves.
Hopefully someone else will comment on cleaning the heads.

As long as the cam, timing gears, and distributer are not pulled, you don't need to put it at TDC, as you have not changed the timing. If any of those are pulled, upon reinstall you can set it to TDC, and go from there. As for cleaning the heads; a whire wheel, and sandpaper will be a benefit. If you are going to pull the heads, even for the head gasket, I would look into why you need a head gasket, and address that issue. My understanding is a head gasket failure is an indication of other problems. If its just for PM, leave timing gears, cam, and distributor in place, you should be fine. Just remember to remove the spout connector when you reset the timing on startup.
