It will turn in neutral but in gear its jammed. Took case off all i found was chewed up plastic and low gear has heat discoloration?? Any ideas gurus? Looks like it took some heat.is that the granny low gear? Is there something plastic in there?
That said I have jammed up a 4speed DougNash before when I accidentally shifted it into 2 gears at the same time by moving the external linkage on a shorter throw modification.
The bigger of the two gears on the mainshaft is friction-welded to the shift collar where it should turn freely given the position of the shift collar. No matter which gear you put it in, there will always be a bind between the selected gear and first because that collar is splined to the mainshaft.
I suspect that you'll be putting A LOT of money in this transmission since you need a mainshaft as well as any of the related pieces of that shift mechanism and gear. Any excess heating of the shaft is not good. The countershaft is also ruined due to the unwanted "heat treating" of that gear.
I just bought trans to play with and maybe convert a 2wd to 4wd. The tail housing is good. I was hoping mainshaft was salvageable but probably no roller bearings left and journal is chewed up. Now i need to find a deep reach puller. At least 11" reach. Kinna expensive for one time use.
Well countershaft is no good i guess even without the heating i think. Part that engages. Reverse idler is worn.waiting on puller to be delivered for further post mortem.
