I cut off my catalytic converter because it was glowing reddish orange and had no power aft== doing so I had 23 code come up on my OBD2 what can I do to fix it cuz now the truck don't want to drive at all
Short version is you need the sensors before and after the cat to tell the ECU what's going on.
And you need to run down any other problems.
I didn't know there was sensors before and after catalytic converter . There was no codes before the cut off or any other problems other then it glowing red hot and loss of power . I thought that once it glows like it was it was no good any more time to replace it
What do I have to do to get my truck to run on just straight pipes
does any body know what I got to do to get my truck to run with out the catalytic converter and to make the codes go away I would appreciate any advice that is given .
The reason that your cat was glowing hot was due to raw fuel entering tie cat. Running bad was a symptom. Most likely your o2 sensor went bad. Like previously said, track down each of the codes and fix them then your vehicle should run right again. The computer wont be able to balance the engines needs otherwise.
The computer is never going to be happy without any cat being in place. The fact you have 23 codes suggests there is more wrong with the truck than just the cat removal. You have some serious fixing to do. Lastly the removal of the cat is not just against CA law but also Federal. You need to fix the truck and re-install the original or another cat, either a factory replacement or a universal. If cutting 2 pipes is the extent of your mechanical ability you need to either take it to a shop and get ready for a sizeable bill or part out the truck.
First find out if you have a CA or Federal program on the vehicle. This can be achieved by looking at the emission tag on the inside of hood. If it doesnt say OBDII or OBD2 then you have a Federal truck and dont have a sensor after cat. The Federal program will run without issue (except being loud) with no cat so your problem lies somewhere else.
If you do indeed have a OBD2 (California emission) then your only option is to add a cat with a sensor after the cat then reconnect the sensor. Report back what emission you have and codes.
When my cat got stolen on my federal truck i drove many miles until it got fixed without a cat with no codes. At first i went to the closest town (50 miles away) to get a straight pipe welded on until i could afford a replacement cat. No one would touch the truck without a factor cat installed for $700 plus labor. I then bought a OBD1 cat $120 and went back to town to get it welded on and again no one would touch it cause they said if it had an OBD2 port it is OBD2, which is not true. Then the last time i went to town was to buy a welder and pipe to weld it on myself, so put on atleast 300 miles without a cat and no error codes or running issues.
