Does anybody know if the Ahchor block can be purchased and replaced? I'm referring to the metal block that is on the inside of the tailgate that keeps the torsion bar from rotating. Mine seems to have broken. I can't seem to find this part listed on any of the parts diagrams I can find online. I believe my tailgate is off of a 2008 truck.
All fixed! Somewhat interesting, I found the root cause of the problem. I bought this tailgate at a swap meet so I don't know exactly what year it is. It's stamped Super Duty on the bottom, I believed it was an 08. I ordered a new torsion rod for it 8C3Z-99402A68-A. Well it seems this rod is larger than the channel in the block. When I did this a few years ago I must have forced it into the channel by tighting the clamp block. It worked for a cople of years, but eventually the anchoe block broke from the stress. The new one I machined to the exact size of the rod and it's working perfect. Perhaps this is an early tailgate and they upsized the torsion rod? Anyway it's fixed.
Some pics below. I drilled a large access hole in the back of the tailgate to allow me to work on this. The hole is high enough to be covered by beadliner tailgate cover. Next to the two anchor bolts there is rivet I had to grind off to remove the block. I did'nt take any pics of the new block, but i's just like the broken one, but with a wider and deeper slot milled into it to accept the larger torsion rod and instead of the rivet, I drilled and tapped a 8-32 thread for a screw. I do love this lift assist!!!
