The keypad part of the question is in reference to the anti-theft system. My truck can absolutely not be broken into by pulling the lock up. Yes I know we have different model years, just more curious if maybe Ford changed the anti-theft or was too stupid to activate it via the handle. Just thinking out loud.
When you say by pulling the lock up, are you talking about the **** that looks to have been molested on the OP's truck?
If I'm not mistaken you had a lock smith attempt a lock out on yours. There is little to no way of getting any purchase on the lock ***** when in the down(locked) position. It would require digging into your door panel like the thieves did. A locksmith or tow driver would not have wanted to cause that type of damage. I am surprised that pressing the unlock button on the door panel would not unlock your truck. I would have expected that, or maybe even pulling on the inside door handle itself to open the door.
You (or anyone) could test it by selecting perimeter only, sitting in the truck and locking it with the fob or having someone outside lock it with key pad or if equipped, button on the handle.

Yes, that’s right. He got the **** to come up about half way, so he got a grip on it but it would come up enough to unlock.
I was very surprised that hitting the unlock button didn’t do it. I thought maybe they weren’t getting enough force on it but it left many deep scratches. I have no idea why the truck so hard to get into. The locksmith spent over an hour on trying to get in.
He tried unlocking with the door handle too. It was strange. I figured it was just a good anti-theft system, but it sounds like there may have been something else going on. Idk.
Poor vandals are just suffering from a lead deficiency.
Chances are, if you shoot a vandal, you are going to jail for a long time... Car thieves like this are cowards and would simply run when confronted. Shoot them and YOU are screwed. Car jacking attempts are a different story but advocating shooting thieves, as much as they deserve it, is pretty foolish discourse.
It depends on the situation, but you should definitely defend yourself if it comes up. Which is way to political of a debate. Castle doctrine extends to your vehicle in some states but people can sue for anything. The local DA in a big city is concerned about votes and will find other charges. There is a black market economy in these border towns and they are a large constituent.
Back to the original subject, I would just avoid these shopping centers and leave some google reviews about lack of security.

Your absolutely right, clearly you can’t go around shooting people unless you live in Chicago, criminals have all the rights and are treated as the victim these days once you defend your family, yourself or your property.
Did you not get the alert on your phone app? Or did they disable that too? If so, I'd arrange separate wiring for the alarm, so you still get the alert, but let them think all is good because they disabled the horn. Then you can come out and catch them in the act.
I would so love love love to catch someone in the act.
Well they got in my truck the same way last night just north of downtown . Have family from out of town and went to eat on the Riverwalk . They unplugged the connector behind the grill and went in the corner of the passenger front window . The console was locked and the console vault was locked . They just yanked open the console/armrest and just twisted the combination lock . Stole a handgun and 3 magazines . They left a couple of knives and keys and looked under the backseat for a rifle but there wasn't one there . Obviously done it a bunch of times and were probably in and out and gone in well under 1 minute . This is probably about 15- 20 miles from where they got Keith here in San Antonio . At least it was a cheap (free to me , just traded work) handgun but now I have to go through the insurance and repair hassle . And apparently my insurance doesn't cover personal effects .

I’m very disappointed that it was that easy to get into the Console Vault. That was on my list of upgrades once we started traveling again. I wonder if the key lock would have fared better.
Freaking thieves are everywhere these days. I’m sorry to hear that you got hit and the OP got hit 3X already.
I would think Ford could do a better job of protecting the horn wiring such that it's no so accessible from the grille. Break-ins are a common occurrence in my area as well as cat converter thefts. All the local PD will do for a break-in is let you submit a report to document it happened, and that's as far as it goes. On the rare occasion they actually catch someone in the act, it's just a misdemeanor.
