Engine chirps when cold
My '97 Explorer (4WD, A/C, 6 cylinder push rod) chirps or whistles on acceleration when the engine is cold. After the engine warms up, the noise goes away. Something that may be related is that the "check engine" light has lit up a few times, for a few days, then it goes off for several weeks. Any clue about the noise?

The chirping noise could be the serpentine belt. You should definitely pull the codes if the CEL was on. Even though it's off now, the codes are still in the computer. Pulling the codes may provide some insight into the chirping noise.
