AC compressor dead

Well, looks like it's my compressor. I'm going to attempt to replace myself tomorrow! AC lines are empty. Any tips and tricks from the group?

Do you plan to recharge the system yourself or have a shop do it?

Shop will do it. I want it to be accurate. They quoted 1200 to do everything. $198 to recharge it I replace the comrpessor myself. so I'll save about 500 and learn something new in the process.

Did it seize up? When mine went out(seized) they replaced more than just the compressor. They flushed the lines or something to make sure all debris was out, replaced compressor, condenser and expansion valve.

Doesn’t seem like it. Just not engaging. Prob could just replace the clutch, but might as well replace the whole compressor.

they did a flush out and he pulled vacuum. Said no signs of anything that shouldn’t be in the lines.

When you have no Freon in the system, the compressor clutch won’t engage unless you override the low pressure switch. You might just have a leak.

Yeah. Was low but not too low. He refilled afterwards and still no compressor engaging.

This sounds like it could happen in many cases. Do you know where the broken place in the wiring harness is?
