Hi - Can anybody tell me whether the 1967 F600 came with a neutral safety switch? My 4-speed manual NP 435 Tranny has the switch on it, but I cannot find any race of wiring for it. Maybe this tranny was swapped out at some time? If the truck did come with a switch originally, can someone tell me what color wire I should be looking for in the harnesses between the ignition switch and the starter solenoid? Thanks.
Your wires should be for backup lights. Or it's a much later transmission, a Transmission Regulated Spark switch. The input shaft for pickup transmissions is smaller than for the medium truck. Is this in the truck or are you installing it?
Bought the truck with the tranny in it. As I understand it, the F600 did not come with backup lights until 1969. The prior owner botched a bunch of wiring in this thing and I'm trying to get the electrical back to original condition. I cannot find wiring for the NSS, so I must assume that this was a replacement transmission, unless the switch is for backup lights. The switch is on top of the tranny, drivers' side, just rear of the shift ball. It is a 1" hex stub with a large ball bearding inside and two connectors on the outside. The switch works but shows about 3 ohms resistance, which seems high, so maybe it's no good. Do you think this could be for backup lights?
Take an ohm meter and put the tranny in reverse, probe the terminals on the switch in "Ohm" setting, if the VOM reads Zero, or something close, take the tranny out of reverse and check again. If the reading is "OL", on a Fluke, or maybe "OPEN" on other brands, you have a Backup light switch. My '66 700 has a NSS, but I am an Allison auto tranny so it is expected. Odd note, built in to the NSS is a set of leads for Backup lights BUT the truck makes NO provision in the rear harness for them, WTF Ford?

Sounds to me like the driver control for a two speed rear axle.

Two speed shifters are on the stick, or the dash. We are talking about the switch on the top cover of the transmission as shown in the illustration in post 2. You have to scroll down in that illustration to see the factory drawing of the top of the transmission.
Also with respect to back up lights: The NP435 was used in pickups which at some point came with back up lights as optional or standard equipment. It was also used by other makers, again in pickups or other vehicles that left the factories with bodywork.
An F600 was/is almost always sold as a chassis/cab, with temporary brake/tail lights. Whoever installs the back of cab equipment would install backup lights.
