I have a 2003 V10 excursion that kept dying on idling or backing up .. Engine light on and the dash lights went off. I read here could be coils. changed coils and spark plugs. Engine light off and running good but now dash lights went out while doing a test drive. Scan says fuse 45
Welcome to FTE. I'm not sure if you are asking where fuse 45 is, or if there is a question at all. Whatever, we have several sub-forums where you can ask your questions, regarding your specific truck, or even specific issue. Under the "Super Duty/ Heavy Duty" heading, you will find a section dedicated to the Excursion. Under the "Miscellaneous" heading, you will find a section dedicated to the electrical system and wiring. Either of these, or both, may give you the information you seek. Also, don't forget to join your Texas State Chapter. Someone with experience, with your issues, may well be right around the corner.
Fuse 45 kept blowing out. I think I found the problem, relay 116.
Unlikely that a relay would cause that issue.
Plus wrong size fuse for 45 had a 20 Amp ,needed 10 Amp.
That means someone swapped in a higher value fuse in an attempt to stop the fuse from blowing.
F45 is the fuse that supplies the instrument cluster so, when it blows, the cluster has no power. The actual cause of that blown fuse is almost always due to a damaged wire harness where it exits the shift lever tube. You have to remove the column shrouds to inspect and repair.
Absolutely, projectSHO89 is right on point, fuse 45 blows when you move your shift lever in and out of gear due to worn wires. Happened to me twice and I am going to do the repair soon.
