So my batteries bit the dust. Or at least one did but I wanted to replace them both.
I am in the Ford dealership parking lot right now, they just replaced my batteries. I went here because I have those rewards points that covered the cost.
I looked at the batteries and they look like there is already some leakage out the top. Edge of caps.
Is this normal for brand new batteries or should I tell them hell no.
Here are the pics. Is this slight looking leakage acceptable or do I need to tell them it's bull****?
I ask because whenever I have changed out batteries in the past i have never seen this.
I’m guessing you stayed with Ford batteries because you wanted to use points?
There are better alternatives that would probably give you better performance and longevity for marginally more. You can use your FordPass points for other items if it’s not too late, like oil/fuel/air filters or Ford accessories (tonneau, etc. )
You would have come out better by going to the aftermarket for your new batteries.
Since you’ve already had them installed via your points, just stick with them until the warranty expires.
Yes that's normal for Motorcraft batteries to leak and yes that acid leakage is unacceptable. I got tired of these Motorcraft batteries leaking so I switched to Orielly maintenance free batteries and so far at 14 months they're bone dry just like a battery should be. No worries of terminal/wire corrosion.
That's a rather minor leak that could have come from the battery being tipped during the install. It's minor compared to the leak I have on mine. I need to remove the hold down bracket, clean it off and paint it - again!
The caps are vented, that looks pretty normal really, probably from tipping them during installation. Either you want basic batteries or you don't. They will work as well as the originals, they are unlikely to "leak" in normal road use. There are better batteries, as mentioned but I do not see anything unusual in your pics, nothing to get upset with the dealer over. They simply installed what you asked for. If you wanted premium batteries and ended up with these, that is on you for not understanding the difference. Reason 987 why I do not use the dealer for anything except catastrophic warranty covered failures....
I've been delinquent with cleaning my batteries but here you can see the leaking from the caps, maybe from charging, maybe from running rough roads.
I'll have to get some distilled water and check the levels.

Look just like standard Motorcraft acid leaking batteries.
LOL... Our batteries were both manufactured on 4/21.
Motorcraft, EverStart, ACDelco they're all made by Johnson Controls. They moved manufacturing to Mexico at least a decade ago. They don't last very long anymore.
East Penn makes batteries in the USA, yet. Sold under the labels of Deka, SuperStart at OReillys, Napa's Batteries, and Energizer (sold by Batteries Plus).
It's not unusual to get 10 years out of them in my cars.
