7.3 hard start

Hi all. 2000 F350, 7.3 diesel. I just completed replacing the HPOP oil (branch) lines from the HPOP to the heads after one blew out. I refilled the crankcase with oil, but didn't refill the HPOP, reasoning it would refill by cranking the engine. Took forever, but it started and ran. checked for leaks, found none.
This truck used to start almost immediately (3-4 seconds crank time), but now if it sits for 20 minutes or more I have to crank 20-30 seconds for it to start. I'm assuming it now has to build oil pressure at the HPOP. Could the HPOP be leaking down now????
Anyway, If anyone of you Guru's have any words of wisdom on this, I'd appreciate any help. Mike

Did you remove the check valve out of the HPOP where the lines connect?

Update:
I had just started the truck and let it run for a few minutes, but hadn't actually driven it anywhere. On Saturday I towed a 12,000# trailer on a 130 mile round trip. At the event I was going to, I talked to a friend/Ford Master mechanic, and he told me that I just needed to run the **** out of it. On the trip back home it seemed to be back to it's previous power level, and it started like it used to.

OP... Did the mechanic say why it would take running the engine for so long for it to come back?

I understood there is a reservoir in the HPOP and should fill up rather quickly.
Im glad your issue is solved, but I dont understand why...
Just curious

It has to do with completely filling the high-pressure oil system. I had a 7.3 that I had to replace injector o-rings on, and when I drained the heads to keep oil from getting into the combustion chambers it took a long while to get those oil lines to refill. For a few starts afterwards it didn't want to start all that well, but I generally drive 20-30 minutes each way to work (at the time it was a bit further) so after a day or two it was fine again.
