There has been discussion on if there is an actual shunt in the Super Duty or not. Did you follow the cable and find a shunt?
My sole experience with a shunt in in my RV, where the shunt is on the negative leg and everything goes through that. To see a larger terminal to the left of the shunt terminal has me scratching my head.
Yes, that is my experience also. Always on the negative side....This "junction" is right next to the battery, with about an 8" 1/0 red positive cable running to it directly from pos terminal on battery. Only reason I'm calling it a shunt, is that's what it actually says on it along with what I would say are amp ratings, and possibly large, matching fuses.
Unless there is something behind the terminal in the junction, what I call a shunt and what Ford calls a shunt may not be the same thing. As I recall, the "shunt" that was being discussed some time ago was a cylinder around one of the cables. I think that type would be called a hall effect shunt? So it didn't look like your typical two-post RV shunt.
That sounds correct. Thanks.....I think for now, until I figure out what this connection is and what purpose, I'll connect my DC to DC Charger directly to the battery. Don't want to confuse any models or whatever! It's just tempting because it's under a cover and would be a cleaner, hidden connection. Thanks for responding, have a great day
It sure looks that way, although I've not run across anything the describes it in detail. It would have been nice if it was at least mentioned in the owners manual,
My '22 F450 has that w/ all terminals populated. Just inboard of the passenger side battery, in front of the upfitter relay box. The cable from the battery is that red / black heatshrink cable coming in from above in the top left corner. The 5 cables going downward, I can't tell, but I'd guess the leftmost one connecting directly to the battery cable coming in is from the other battery.
Houlster, thanks. Yours is obviously a diesel, with two batts, where mine isn't so the empty terminals on mine are making a little more sense. I see all yours are utilized which makes sense also. You have high amperage glow plugs, and possibly something else I do not have.....
