I was wondering if someone could tell me what bolts I need to remove in order to take off the front clip. I think there's a total of twelve, but I'm not sure.
Also, any ideas on how to open a door with no door handles??? Take off the door panel and pop open the latch with a screwdriver?
That's a good set of instructions. I have to restate that there are bolts at the farthest back section of the front clip/fenders, down below the door that attach to the cab. It took me a bit to spot those, and even longer to remove since some of the sheet metal that the threads went into busted....spin...spin..."what's the heck is happening here"?
Good luck, this is a lot of work. I just spent the weekend trying to avoid that by moving the entire front clip and cab from one chassis to the next.
It was also a lot of work. But after separating the front clip and cab from my 69, I wondered if it would ever go back together and look decent. I didn't want to risk that with the 67s very straight body. fortuntely, my brother-n-law has a shop with a lift.
In case you're wondering, I had a guy give me a '70 F100! Well, actually its only the front half. Aparrently they cut it apart for a pickup box trailer. I was going to just pick it up with a tractor and set it on the car trailer, but the frame was cut off under the cab, so I didnt think that would be to smart. Might bend up stuff. So I decided to take the front clip off and then strip all of the interior out of it.
I still need a door though, because last time it was moved they stuck a chain through the cab and it crumpled the tops of both doors and the cab.
But, the radiator support and inner fenders appear to be perfect!! And it has add on air conditioning!! I'll have to take some pics so you can see what I mean.
Hmmm, come to think of it there was a power steering pump laying in the seat (there's no engine). I wonder if it has a power steering gearbox!?!?! This just keeps getting better!
If you cant tell by my ramblings, I'm very excited! Cant wait to start stripping that truck down!
I have removed and installed a few clips and the worst part is getting the two core support mount bolts out. With the help of a buddy and air tools I can usually have one off in maybe 30 minutes. I always remove the hood and radiator otherwise it is kind of heavy for 2 guys. It is helpful for reinstallation if you remember what shims went where, but that isn't a big problem.
A friend and I have already removed the hood and I dont think there is a radiator. I think we might remove the front clip and then the cab mount bolts and move bring the cab to my house to strip it instead of doing it all there.
i remove mine whenever i have the need, takes about half and hour now from the wrench hitting the first bolt. the front mounts seem to be the biggest pain, after busting them i just replaced them with grade 8's dont forget the fender straps, i forget these almost every time, you do need two people to pick it up though, not heavy heavy but akward for sure. if you bolt in the front mounts first but dont tighten them up and then do the ones on each side below the fender and snug them up tight then do the ones inside the door jams then tighten the rest of them up you wont have too much trouble getting it close to being straight. i get mine straight every time now. but i have had mine off a few times.
