Thanks for the help. I still can't figure out why it ran fine when it was cold.

Poor quality/aged plug wires breakdown when heated.

Open loop air/fuel ratio is also pig rich on these trucks.

Not without a tuner. That's the way the system is programmed. Another reason why the thermactor system is designed to inject air directly into the converter to get it up to temperature quickly.

Great, the computer is still programmed for a very rich mixture at cold start up.

Continuing saga.
Have been driving daily. Truck starts, runs, lots of power, shifts fine.
It seems to flatten out at about 2500 rpm. doesn't seem to be missing just seems to dog.
Step on it perks right up then when I back off it seems to flatten out again. Happens on both tanks so not thinking fuel.
Any suggestions??

Both tanks use the same fuel pressure regulator. Verify the fuel pressure at idle and under load. I do not recall if you have checked the base timing?

3.55 gears stock tire size 4x4.
Like I said in the opener I don't have much for diagnostic equipment.
Is there a way to tell if tie engine is stock?
The belt routing sticker under the head says it for a 7.5

You can rent a fuel pressure tester from one of the big 3 parts stores.

You'll have to layout the cash deposit, but it comes back.

I wish! You boys down south got it made. I'm in central British Columbia, half way to Alaska from the border.
