I've got a new Dilemma. The driver's side door hits the cowl when opening. I've tried shims but that's not fixing it. I'm sure (why because I did it) the open door was jammed between the barn and the truck rolling off the trailer. Has anyone had experience with pulling the cowl hinge mounts back into place?
Sounds like you gave it a pretty good shot...to reverse the damage you will need to apply the same amount of force in the opposite direction. A porta-power is the tool of choice for me...the problem arises in finding a point on the cab to push against. I would start at the base of the hinge pillar on the passenger side and see how much you could jack it out from there.
That is not going to be easy to twist back. Perhaps taking the door off and getting a bar or something into the pocket where the hinge sits and try twisting it back. Might have to take the front fenders off for less friction.
It may not be the mounting in the cowl that's dislocated, but the hinges themselves may be bent. If everything seems to fit correctly but the door swing isn't right and causes the door to hit where it shouldn't, to me, that's an indicator toward that thinking. Something to think about. If you have another pair you could swap out, it could be helpful.
Sorry guys, no it's not my 56 that's in the bodyshop.
It's my 53 Panel. I was trying to not have to ask anyone for help and was backing the Panel off the trailer (no brakes or motor) but had the door open to steer. The door was pretty rotted and kinda gave some cushion but still it took a come along to pull the panel up the trailer far enough to clear the door from the barn. Since the door was toast I exchanged it with another and replaced the hinges as well. So none of the moving parts are original.
I considered the bar in the hinge pocket but was hoping someone had run across this before and had some first hand knowledge of what to do.
What's the gaps like with the door completely closed.? Last picture looks like the door post has pulled away from the rocker panel..you said you changed the door, it could be that the door is just too far forward..
