Shut the Door

Need suggestions on new door hinges. I have replaced the pins in the driver side door and even adjusted and shimmed the door. But I'm tired of having to slam it harder than I should have too. These doors are used a lot everyday. Where is the best place to get the best door hinges? Just looking for driver side right now. Thanks

If you’re saying that you have to slam the door to get it to shut, wouldn’t the latch be the thing to replace vs the hinges?

No sir. the door latches just fine. Even with the new pins you can feel up and down play in the door. Plus it drags on the stationary latch on the back half door. Probably should mention, its a super cab. I can pick up on the door right before it closes and it shuts fine.

Got it.....

is the hardware on the driver and passenger side doors swappable?

If they are, since your passenger works ok, maybe swap the parts and see if that fixes the problem. That would just definitely tell you if those parts are the cause. Plus, then your driver’s side would be fixed; passenger side presumably may not be used as much so you could live with it until you get new parts

Didnt think of that. That's why I asked. I'll look at that, but if it is the fix, I'll get new parts all the way around. Including the one in the picture.

I found some door hinges for sale on-line that are built to OE manufacturing specs. New Dorman door pins were 12 dollars and did not work for me. New hinges are about $27 each. I will replace the door stopper too. If this gets the door back to working order, I'm looking at new windshield, driver and passenger side glass and new seals all the way around. Has anyone removed the front quarter panel to access the door hinge area? I was looking at it yesterday morning and seems like about 8 bolts will take it off.

Thanks Jason. I had rather move the fender than fight it the whole time. seems it would be easier to realign the door too. On a side note... The Hutch and Harpoon Mod is severally underrated. I have yet to take a fuel pressure reading on my truck. If I got on the throttle hard while towing and climbing before the Mod, I could make SEL come on. Can't do it now. Lot quitter too. Thanks for info.

Good work!

I often say all of these trucks need this mod by now.

Does the door harness unplug somewhere under the dash? I need to pop a couple doors off so that I can get some pallet forks in there.

No. Youll have to unplug it and fish the harness out of the door. The cab harness is all one piece (all of the doors, etc).

Jason, can you show me on this picture I barrowed from you. Where or how do I get to this bolt? The hinge one my truck at this specific bolt does not sit flat on the body for some reason. It almost seems as though the bolt has a shoulder on it that needs to be maybe be
turned to fit in the hinge. I've tried several times to tighten this bolt, but again it leaves a gap between the hinge and the panel where it should seat.

They came in today. I will try to install THESE ONES this week end if I don't have to work all weekend. I have been looking and studying on it and I have decided to take the driver side front quarter panel off to better access everything. I am going to attempt to change out these hinges one at a time and with the door shut. Removing the quarter panel should give me plenty of room.

$26.93 at CARiD.com, The LWR stamped into the steel is Lower Right Door Hinge. This is going on 1999.5 Ford super duty with the super cab.

$28.94 .....Front Upper Hinge

$28.26 ....Front Door Check. Thought I would go ahead and change this too. Daughter almost broke her ankle last year while turkey hunting in Nebraska when the door swung back on her.
I got all for $101.34. I'm sure some of you can find a better deal. But these are opened and can not be returned and are going onto my truck. Harvest Gold Paint will not be in till Monday.
