Okay so I’ve done a bit of digging and I can’t seem to find a solution to my problem. Let me set the scene:
Dropped off my truck this morning to a detailer to have the leather protected from this blistering Texas sun. Get truck back and I kept getting the error message that the USB device is not recognized the entire way home while nothing was plugged in. That changed to a warning saying the usb was drawing too much power. Again nothing was connected. I got home, popped the module out, and after I pulled the module out, Sync was still saying the ports were overloaded. I turned the truck off, dunked the mini usb in 99% alcohol and dumbed the USB port circuit board and ports in a cup of 99% alcohol. I pulled them out, cleaned them with some cotton swabs and soft wood scribes to ensure all conductors were clean of foreign material as I assume that some plastic shine got sprayed into the ports. I let everything dry, put everything back together and turned the truck back on. No more overload warnings… however the plugs still didn’t work. (The LEDs around the plugs have always been lit through all of this). I found some other resources about doing a master reset by going through the settings menu to re-enable the ports after a short. But that still has not kicked on power. Checking prongs 1 and 4 with a Fluke yields nothing. And since Mini-USB has gone the way of the dinosaur, I have nothing I can plug into that port or into the USB module to verify one or the other works or doesn’t work. I’m working the rest of the week including Saturday so I’m sourcing the forum mechanics for some extra pointers on where to look next without hopefully not having to pull the dash and replace the whole dang mini usb cable from the head unit to the ports.
Picture of the port to show condition. This is after cleaning. I doubt this picture is of any use. Looking for any advice on where to look for potential causes or something simple I might be missing.
Haven’t tried that but I feel the washing with alcohol would have done that. I’m probably going to order the hub today since it’s relatively cheap and I’ll try and see if that fixes it.

I agree but it was worth a shot before taking it to the dealer and worked. But I understand.
Update: Looks like I have a gremlin because I got off work today and when I got home and got in my truck (I have a company vehicle so basically 24 hrs went by of truck being off and hubs being disconnected) I had a feeling to just check it and see what’s up. Turns out they work now. I have ordered the Hub from Ford today though. It’s like a 75$ part and I’ll probably still buy it because knowing my luck, I’ll accidentally spill something in there eventually and the problem will be worse the next time.
