Anyone else experience this? They did an update to it last week but it didn't fix it. Going back in next week for another try. Sometimes when I first start my truck it just stays on this screen. If I cycle the power it comes back up normal.
If you search threads I've started, you'll find that I had this same issue. It was only fixed after the dealer performed a firmware update to one of the other pieces of hardware in the dash (maybe the acm but I forget now).
I just looked back at my thread and it looks like I never updated it with the solution. They replaced my apim twice trying to fix the issue which never worked. What did work was like I said, a firmware update and I think it was to the audio control module (acm).

Whats the APIM? They did do an update to it, they said they've seen it before and they have a few different fixes for it. I just hope I don't have to pay another $50 deductible!
I honestly am not sure what the apim is or what it stands for, I'm sure someone else will chime in. They replaced mine twice which didn't fix the problem, then updated the acm and it was fixed. They never charged me a dime for any of it though it started before my bumper to bumper warranty was up.
I had same issue last night. The radio works, but I could not switch to any other setting: Nav, climate, ETC....even the clock was frozen. When I got home, the screen and the illumination for the doors, window switches, locks...ETC would not shut off. I tried to reset the system but it didn't work. I had to disconnect the battery. Going to the dealership on the 16th.

The APIM is the actual brains of the SYNC 3 system and everything on the center stack goes through it.
It’s a module that’s attached to the back of the screen.
Sometimes updates will fix issues one is having and other times it has to be replaced.
Most if not all dealers know about these APIM problems going back to the 2016 F150 and yes, the SD uses the same SYNC 3 system as the F150.
I need your help I’ve upgraded to sync 3.4 but it’s laggy and sluggish is there any way to go back to sync 3 v3.0 build 19205 the furthest I’ve gone back to is sync 3.3
can anyone help I’ve reached out to many people but still haven’t got any answer . The vehicle in question is a 2017 explorer XLT

Not sure if you can go back but I don't see why you couldn't?
The dealer is waiting to hear back from Ford on replacing my APIM.

I read somewhere on fte site that the downgrade from 3.4 is not an easy or fun one. It is a complete reload of the 3.0 software. Not sure where you can get that though...
So after waiting a week to hear back from Ford, they decided that pictures aren't proof there is a malfunction. If the dealer cant get it to malfunction then there is nothing they can do. So frustrating! The soy boy service advisor hung up on me when I started questioning him about what I am suppose to do next. I called back and was told that I can leave it there until they get it to screw up or I can bring it by if I am out and it messes up, which I have done twice in the past already and all they did was schedule me an appointment. Of course the Service Manager is out this week so I just have more time to fume over it!
Doing a reset fixes it temporarily. To do this, hold the power and fast forward buttons for about 10 seconds until the screen goes blank. Mine has done this since I upgraded to version 3.0 software and continues to do it even after an APIM replacement. That tells me it is probably more software related than hardware.

I did a reset through Forscan. If I power it off then back on it works fine. It's random, just annoying.

I took mine in 2 or 3 times till they finally figured it out. I had pictures of it and described it but until I got it to happen in the dealer lot, they never really understood the issue. That's when they updated the acm firmware which is what fixed it. I would say take a video of it when it's happening if you are unable to drive to the dealer. Also ask them to update the acm firmware.
