Hello, just purchased an 05 V10 Excursion and except from gas prices, love it. It has an issue with the gauges that I was aware of when I purchased. On a cold start up, relative term for this time of year, none of the gauges work. It starts fine, just there is nothing happening on the gauges. After maybe 5 minutes or so, the gauges start coming to life. They flutter a little and the mileage flickers, and then everything works fine. The person I bought it from was going to pull the cluster and send it to a company to be rebuilt. Due to circumstances, I went ahead and purchased in the condition it is. So far has only happened when I crank it up for the first time in the morning.
Has any had any experience with this? It seems like it could just as easily be a battery problems vs an issue with the gauges.
1. Have you tried disconnecting the battery? Disconnect, let sit for a few hours, reconnect.
2. Check all connections.
3. If you're still having gauge problems, check fuses 35, 41, 45 (all 10A)
4. If you're still having gauge problems, it wouldn't be a bad idea to get the cluster repaired, at least looked at.
Check out our repair option if you get to that point https://circuitboardmedics.com/2002-...luster-repair/.
Thank you, I will look through those threads and try the battery disconnect. Sending to you guys is a thought. Just want to make sure it is the gauge cluster and not a battery problem. I wouldn't think fuses since the gauges come back on, but who knows. Thanks.
Wanted to provide an update and more information. Work has been pretty hectic so not much time to do anything other than drive her. The gauge issue hasn't happened in probably a week. I don't know if the fact that the guy I bought it from did not use the X as a daily driver and I do, but it seems to stay "warmed up" now with daily driving. May crap out down the road, but good for now. Thanks.
