I am from the Netherlands and trying to register a pre 50 F6 4x4 COE. Problem is; there is no paperwork and the dutch DMV demands the VIN decoded. Can't find any info....
This truck was probably built in Antwerpen for the Belgium Army. Anyone can help out decoding this VIN?
Copied from another site. VIN codes first charactor indicates year. 8=1948 9= 1949 and 1950 second and third charactors engine series 8HC 1948 six F-18RC 1948 V8 F-18HD 1948 6cyl F-28RD 1948 V8 F-28HY 1948 six F-38RY 48 V8 1949 9HC six cyl F-19HD six F-29RD V8 F-29HY six F-39RY V8 1950 9HC six F-19RC V8 F-HD six F-29RD V8 F-29HY six F-39RY V8 The last series is the engine production #s Body # not the same as VIN Serial # For 1950 start at 92251 for six cyl 73088 for V8
Welcome to the forum! I'm not sure how much help we can be. There is very little documentation available over here for European trucks. What I can tell you is if your truck was US production, the serial number prefix for a 1949 or 50 F6 cabover with a V8 engine would read 98RWH. It appears they left out a couple of letters to keep it simple, leaving the 9 for 1949, 8 for 8 cylinder engine, and H for F6. The numbers are the consecutive unit number, and I would agree with your assessment that the ANT would be Antwerp, Belgium assembly. Here's an interesting video of the Ford plant there from October, 1948, showing the assembly of 1949 Ford and Mercury cars, with a few brief shots of Ford trucks. https://www.europeana.eu/en/item/08623/10203
Take a look and see if there are any numbers and letters hand stamped into the firewall, near the cowl seam. It may look something like this as was done in US assembly. This would be the production code showing the assembly plant, color code, and date of assembly.
I would also direct you to a thread over in the 47 and older forum. There's a guy there form Norway who's been doing a restoration on an old Ford Army truck from Europe. You might find it interesting and inspirational, and perhaps he could be of assistance for you. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...0-project.html
