91 E350 Airbox fitment

Hey guys,

When I got this E350, there was no mounting hardware on the airbox and the brackets didn't line up to the mounting holes. See below.

Upon further inspection, the airbox is hitting the main radiator hose. I suspect that maybe the radiator hose is incorrect or not mounted properly.

91 e350 airbox doesn't fit

Can someone share a picture of the proper airbox fit for a '91 w/ a 5.8L V8? Does anyone have the P/N for the main radiator hose? I know mine has a motorcraft P/N on it. I can grab that in the morning. I guess another possibility is that the radiator was replaced and the hose is in a different location.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Earl

Does this help?

Neither has a snorkel over the battery like you have.

Thanks tab. I did see those images on google search. As you can see, my airbox is slightly different. Only one hose going into the intake for EGR/PCV (cant remember which that is).

It definitely looks like my radiator was changed at one time. That explains why the airbox is hitting the main radiator hose.

Not sure where to go from here. I guess I can live with it for now.

My Ford parts catalog is from 1980-1989 but in this illustration, it does seem to show a 1990 specific snorkel. When the ford manual shows a 1990/, the forward slash indicates that the part fits from 1990 onward. If the part only fits certain years only, then it would be similar to say,1985/1989.
There is also a chance that there was a change in the 1991 that is not shown in my manual because it is supposed to only go up to 1989.

Here is 2 pieces of literature that I highly recommend for your can. They are tailored specifically to your year model unlike many that cover just general information over several year models.

here is a Electrical/Vacuum troubleshooting manual specifically for your 1991 econoline. The price is a bit higher then I usually see but it appears to be the last one I see listed on Ebay right now. Often you can find them for under $15.. You can maybe search around and find one cheaper.

Thanks for sharing that. I'm almost certain its the radiator that is causing my fit issues.

The inline 6 has a cold air intake running down by the battery, hooking to the grill below the battery, I can't give a photo, I tore mine out to get access to replace my heater motor and resistor, was unable to put it all back, the six has a fan in the fender by the battery, it blows through a large hose across the battery and around to the fuel injectors. The cold air intake sure would be cool if it could be enlarged to move more air up into the air box.
