Reading Spark Plugs

My 67 F100 352 with the original Autolite 2100 carb is running rich. One of the tell tales is the dark charcoal deposit all of the plugs. Thanks to information from threads in this forum I am going to check the following on the carb - fuel bowl wet level, power valve condition and jet size. My question is, once I have made the adjustments do I need to replace the plugs with new ones. The current ones have about 500 miles on them. Can I clean them up and reuse them, and if I have eliminated the rich condition will the show the light tan that I am looking for, or will the previous rich condition remain? Other than running rich, the engine starts, idles and runs well.

I would clean them, check gaps, and reinstall. I would then hook up a vacuum gauge and check the air/fuel mixture screws for needed adjustment. I would think if the power valve, jets, or float level were off then it wouldn't run or start well.

If you have the time and $$, you can order 8 new plugs from Rock Auto and start over for better troubleshooting.
