Howdy:
I know there is some posts on plugs carbon deposite, but I want this as a separate subject just to get as much info and experiments stories as possible.
My problem is the carbon on the spark plugs, what is the cause and clue. After driving 1000 miles on my new rebuilt 300, found carbon on plugs( plugs should look white on electrodes as indication of complete burn). I could say the carb is adjusted a little rich or maybe the plugs are not firing suffeciantly. I appreciate any advise. Thanks.
Fahed, here's some of my thoughts, I would suspect a rich condition and I'd start looking in 2 places to correct it: 1st would be the air filter and the 2nd would be the plugs themselves. If the air filter is dirty, it'll make it run rich. As for ther plugs, make sure they're gapped correctly and are the right heat range. If the truck is running good otherwise, I wouldn't touch the carb, but would get a plug that's one step hotter, IF the fouling plugs create a problem (otherwise, I'd just put up with it.) An old motor sometimes just runs dirty.
He said the engine was newly rebuilt, so we aren't talking about an old motor per se.
Fahad, is the carb the old one, or a newly rebuilt one, and did you replace your coil, wires cap & rotor, or did you use your old electronics for your new engine? Points?
Gamma, I was late replying due to my password problem.
The carb I have is rebuilt, I put new kit on it, all wires, cap, rotor, and Petronix ign are new. Coil is new too and resistance check is ok. Engine is timed to 10 deg as advised by a friend at yahoogroup list. I just want to know if that carbon has an affect on engine performance,(the carbon is not heavy it just made the plug look black). Thanks.
