Crew cab vs Supercab

Just curious. I have a 1978 f250 crew cab 4x4 and a 1979 F350 supercab 4x4. Which of the two would be more valuable? I am debating taking the supercab drive train and transplanting into the crew cab. The crew cab is a I6 300 and the f350 is a 400 V8.

thanks

Both of those trucks are super desirable. I would try and make both into nice rigs.

Crew cabs are more rare

There are parts around, if they are in good shape you can fix both as noted

If it is a crew cab long box, it is a long rig.

X2 both trucks are very popular, but I think the CC is a little more popular now days. I'd leave the 400 where it is, and get a V8 for the CC.

Appreciate the comments and I agree to leave both trucks as they are. Crew cab will get an engine swap and then a restore for the super cab.

thanks again.

FYI,

Ford never made the longbed 4x4 Crew cabs until 1980.

AND the 1979 F350 4x4 Supercab, Ford only made 1761 units, (1979 was the first year for the F350 SC 4x4) so obviously this truck is much more rare than the CC's.

Or just rebuild the 300, add an Offy intake, Holley 390cfm and Hedman dual outlet headers! If the CC has NP435 and 4.10's it'll pull 33's without an issue. That's what I'd do... and still have ok mileage compared to a V8

Neat.

I see supercab 78 and 79 all over the place.

Didnt know the f350 supercab was rare.

I've never seen a crew cab 78/79 in person

Guessing the crew cab is a short box?

Super cab is fine, but the crew cabs are not as plentiful, in my opinion.

I am also partial, as I have one.

Here is my take:
Value depends. If you guys noticed recently, a '79 F350 Crew cab mounted on a '04 Dodge cummins chassis just sold at the Indy Meccum auction for $220k. The pickup outsold all Camaro's and Vette's by and easy $100k. _ _ _ Go figure.
The value of my '77 Crew just rose significantly.
Now, If I sold it for $60k, what piece of nostalgia could I replace it with for $60k ?
New pickups decked out are priced currently at $65k and UP. _ _ _ my conclusion is simple. _ _ Keep it and Enjoy !

A nice F350 Supercab should have good value, BUTT, a Supercab is a Supercab and doesn't have 4-doors for convenience.

I'm running what is mentioned above: 300 inline mini-cummins-gasser Clifford equipped, w/ universal Holley 650 4-bbl, NP435 4-speed trans with a married NP205 from a '73 F100, a '79 Dana king pin 60 up front and D60 rear both with 4:10 gearing. When I'm towing, I wind the ca-jeebies out of this engine, and it hasn't failed in 20-some years yet.
Here is what the above resides in: a '77 F250 crew cab, and '78 long bed box mounted on a '77 F350 longbed 2wd chassis.
I converted the 2wd chassis to 4x4 using '76 F250 highboy front springs and perches. This build was done 1996-1998, pre-internet.

Note for you guys wanting to convert a 2wd chassis to 4x:
The 2x frames happen to be factory punched to accept the '75 / '76 F250 4x front spring hanger / crossmember !
I have never found this fact noted anywhere, but I discovered it by mistake and LUCK, by doing it. F-ing nice conversion solution.
Note again, the frame channels or rails changed mid-77. So earlier 2wd frames have the factory hole punching.
Check it out sometime, and you will be very Pleasantly Surprised.
Happy Trails.

See below the results of my efforts:

i'm running LT255-75-16 Toyo a/t tires, and not too wide.

Original color blue main color. originally, my pickup had the puke-blue inside the race-trac trim. I hated it.
So, I just repainted the whole pickup the light "baby" blue, which I like big time.
