E4OD wiring help (fire damage)
I recently (December 2021) had a re-man tranny installed but didn’t hit the road until early May 2022. Yesterday, upon trying to start the truck (which is my DD and has put on 4k miles since May 4th) it wouldn’t turn over and after 3 attempts of turning the ignition all the way, some smoke started to rise from under the hood. I immediately popped the hood, grabbed my extinguisher and had a small electrical fire to deal with. Turns out, it was a single length of [14 gauge?] wire running from the object pictured to a grounding on the inside passenger fender wall. I was able to run some 12-2 Romex in place of it and drive the truck home. However, I would like to repair the wiring properly.
what I believe the issue was, is that it appeared as though the transmission shop had broken the wire about 4” from this object and had put in a splice using all of the original wire. What I’m assuming happened was, there was too much amperage running from the top end down to a restriction of the splice (the bottom 4” connected to the object was fine) and thus causing it to overheat, melt the casing, and start a fire.
any and all help appreciated!
