Ok, Thank You. mine does not them. That changes things. I had a 62 uni that I cut up and the rusted out tailgate did not have those rods. The 63 has two notches near the top of the tailgate , is that the spot for those rods? Where can you purchase the rods at? That's why I was wondering about modifying the tailgate. Don't want the gate hitting the bumper everytime you open it. Learned some thing new again this evening. Thank You, instig8r63.

The hotdog shaped holes in the tailgate ends are for the support rods. I do not believe they are being reproduced aftermarket. There are holes at the top of the bed ends in the tailgate area where the other ends of the rods attach.
These supports could be home fabricated. I will try to get some pics of the ends tomorrow.
