I have a 2004 F150 lariat super crew with the 5.4 triton V8 engine, automatic transmission.
A couple days ago my starter decided it didn’t wanna be in the truck anymore so I replaced it. Not a huge deal aside from that top bolt being a pain.
Got it all patched back up and thought I was ready to go but now the truck won’t start at all.
I have power from the battery to the starter and all my instruments work.
I turn the key to crank the engine over and all I get is a single click from the fuse box behind the passenger side kick panel. From inspection and testing all fuses look to be intact and operable. I tried jumping the new starter and it’ll engage the flywheel but won’t make a full rotation. Which could be from me not having enough room under there to make full contact but I want to cover all my bases.
Im at a complete loss. Has anyone else ran into this situation and if so; how did you solve it? Thank you
Sounds like either a bad cable/connection (mis-diagnosed) or your replacement starter is bad. Did you have it tested at the parts store before paying for it? I started doing that a long time ago and it's saved me from several dud starters and alternators since then.
