Super C-6 Tranny

Super C-6 Tranny
This is my first post so go easy on me. I am restoring a 72 Ranchero which has a 351C 2BBL and an FMX tranny. I would like to change out the tranny to a C-6. I have been reading about the C-6 and have found that there was a super C-6 which was used in the towing package. I have looked at several trannies and have noticed one that has reinforcing ribbing down the upper case running longitudinally and has S96 stamped on the case near the bell housing opening. The tranny has the ID tag removed but it has 79 Lincoln written on the torque coverter. It has the bell housing to fit a 460 or 351C-400M. Does anyone know how to identify the super C-6 from its physical appearance? Or does anyone know a good source that can give me the info I need? I have been searching the web and happened across this website and forum and figure someone out there knows about these things.

that c-6 wont fit your 351c, you have a 289-302-351w bellhousing, 351m-400-460's are different.....as far as the c-6 differences ford made alot of different ones, some had low first gears ( usually 6 cyl apps ) some had extra clutches ( hi-po apps ), etc.....some had ribs for strength ( earlier models i believe),some were a smooth case....... but anyhow, you need one for a small block ford
