Engine recommendation question

I'm new to the F-150 and Ecoboost world. I have driven F-250 and F-350 trucks for the past 35 years. I now find myself having to drive 70 miles one way to work everyday and don't need to put those miles on my F-250 needed for towing, just to get to work and back. I looking at buying a used low mileage F-150 with an Ecoboost for commuting, but don't know the first thing about those engines. Looking for input as to what to avoid before I make a mistake. Just looking for dependability and good gas mileage.

I have a '17 SC 4x4 with the 2.7 and six speed, 3.55s. I would expect low to mid 20s for that commute if it was realtively flat and traffic allowed steady speeds.
Gotta have a pickup? Lots of cars hit 30 in a drive like that. We rented a V6 Charger that was running 31 on a highway segment. (lie-o-meter unverified but it wasn't far off....)

EcoBoosts are just gas V6s with two turbos. If your truck is a Powersrtoke, you’ve been living with a turbo for a long time and know that they are reliable. For some reason, people are off put buy turbos on a gas engine.

You’ll find that the EcoBoosts have a similar power delivery feel to turbo diesels. The torque come on fast and remains mostly flat through the power band. They perform very well at high elevation.

Having had a Super Duty before this truck, you will really enjoy the smooth ride and relative quiet. 20 plus average MPG on a 2.7 aint bad either.

If you don't need a truck for that commute then you may consider a gas sipper.

150 mile round trip I make gets me in the 21+ mpg average from my 2018 5L v8 10 speed at road speeds around 65 mph.
Gas is 88 octane, non-leaded, no ethanol and lowest cost.
Got to love the power when needed.
No Turbos needed here and sill can pull a load.
Good luck.

I wouldn't even consider a truck for daily driving if I already had one. Heck, I had a chance to get a 2013 Elantra for $600 and jumped on it and my drive is only 30 miles round trip.
Every 1000 miles I put on the car I save about $100 in gas.

If I were you I'd look at an 2005+ Honda and enjoy the 30+mpg while running th elowest/cheapest octane you can get.

For our routine trips to town we have a Mazda CX5 that gets around 30 MPG. Great little car; quite comfortable, good performance, and sporty too.

If you would really just prefer a F150 and all you’re basically using it for is going back and fourth to work, a NA V6 would be a better and cheaper option and it still has good hauling and towing ability if needed.

Take a look at the 2015-2017 NA F150 which will have the 6 speed automatic transmission.
