It's been a while, but I'm back in saddle. As my name shows, I owned a 1950F1 (as well as many other Ford Trucks). Sold the F1 to pay college tuition payments for the kids, Almost done now so I have a new toy. I picked up a 79 F150 2WD Auto that had been sitting for almost 10 years for $500. Solid frame and not too far gone body wise. Freed up the brakes and the tires held air. Got it home with a tow strap and the 86 F150 4X4 4 Spd (now also sadly gone). I had to put an ebrake cable on it to flat tow it home. Step one was to get it running. Rebuilt the carb, drained all the old gas, put in a battery. Did all the normal marvel mystery oil and turn it over by hand routine. Motor was free but no spark. It was a pain to track down multiple problems. Main issues were the duraspark2 and the ignition switch. Long story short, it ran but poorly. I installed new brakes all around - lines, master, booster, calipers, wheel cylinders, etc so the first safety rule was met - it stops. The radius arm bushings were gone from deterioration. Didn't stop test drives but they are now on order too. Pulled the tank and found the pickup plugged almost completely with no filter, no float, and wire broken for the sender inside. Tank sounded like it was full of gravel from all the rust. New tank and assorted ordered today. Right now it is being moved around using a Toro snowblower gas tank attached to the fuel pump.
Ordered too many parts today from three different sources. It is going to be a good summer - weather is hot and beer is cold! I hope to have it fully on the road in two weeks. By the way, it came with repop door shells and front fenders, OEM stainless grill surround, grill, and headlight surrounds, full weather stripping, about a dozen patch panels, and boxes of assorted parts, lenses, switches, etc. Good start for my $500 purchase. PO failed project is my new toy. Dent Sides Rule.
