My order is for a Limited and I have one last change I want to make. I don't think the FX4 package is worth the price so I plan to drop it.
I plan to keep the skid plates, and the 4X4. I get the AT tires anyway and can turn on the Hill Descent via Foreskin myself. My question is if I want the elocker differential? What does that gain me or cost me besides the money? I'm sticking with the 3.31 gears because I think having half a foot-ton of torque is plenty for take off even if I go with 35s.
Good call on ditching the FX4 package. And the elockers were $390 when I ordered mine last year. It allowed me to simply lock in both rear wheels via the 2WD/4WD ****. I think it’s worth having…
Yes for the Locker. I have a 2020 Lariat 4x4 with the locker. A 4x4 without lockers is really a 4x2. A 4x2 is really a 4x1. With 1 locker the 4x4 is a 4x3. I have a Jeep on 1 tons with lockers front and rear and it really makes a difference. Locker in Rear - Some Day it will get a locker in Front. It works Locked front and Rear

user name checks out.
i would like to see a front locker for super duties so Power Wagon isn’t alone in being able to do that.

oh my…
all jokes aside, For my next order I too am tempted to opt out of fx4 if stand alone skid plates are still an option, or if there is a good source of aftermarket ones I would rather get a real set.
I went with the FX4 package. I had it on my 09 but back then it was also a different trim level but the same stuff as today less the hill decent. The one thing the FX4 package did mandate the last time I messed with the builder was the 20" rims so that was another 1400 bucks so almost 2k now.

The FX4 mandates the elocker and includes skids and A/T tires, 20 inch wheels and Hill Descent. I already get the tires/wheels. The skids are $100 and Hill Descent is a software tweak. So it's like $300 for stickers that I'd probably pull off anyway. Might be worth it for a lower trim, I guess.
Let me get this straight, you’re buying the most expensive very top of the line Limited, but are concerned about a few hundred bucks for the FX4 option?

Well, you don't save up enough to buy a Limited by spending $300 on a couple stickers.
Besides, if it really were top of the line it would have massaging seats.
Skid plates, tires, e locker.....all good moves. Spend the other money on a better set of shocks. I have used the e locker a couple of times. It is worth it's weight in gold.

IMO you’re wasting so much more than $300 on so many other things with really anything above a Lariat. It’s all just bells and after that. Nothing anyone really needs. Just fluff. Softer materials, satin trim, fancier plastic wood etc. Multi contour aka massaging seats are part of the platinum and limited package. Maybe king ranch too not sure. They may be temporarily unavailable due to parts shortages, but they’ll have provisions and be able to be retrofitted later once parts become available

The problem with the FX4 package is that their is absolutely no value in it. That has nothing to do with how much the truck costs… This package must have been way different in the past because today it only means you paid a lot of extra money for a sticker that says FX4 instead of 4x4…
Also, FWIW, in my opinion anything over an XLT is a waste… but then there will be those that say anything more than an XL is a waste… at least the different trims actually offer a little something more for the extra money though… unlike the FX4 package!
