AC system question
I have not done a pressure test. Maybe that is still needed. But I did try 3 temp gauges in the dash vents. I used a digital multi meter with temp, a mechanics style dial temp gauge and a infrared temp gun.
First test was while parked. Air temp was about 80-85F, I think MAX air was on (it defaults to the light on, on the button) and I think the drivers window was open: At idle and about 3000rpm the temp was the same at the vent with the DVM and temp gauge inserted into the vent. It was varying from about 50F-58F.
I then took it for a drive on the same route that "I thought" is was not cold on the freeway: I do drive with the drivers side window open about an inch or so and have vent visors. With about 60F on the trucks outside temp gauge and the probe from my DVM stuffed in the vent I was getting 38-44F and it didn't matter if it was city speed or freeway. The fan was on #1 or 2. Then on the way back with air temp at about 80F I was getting 48-54F city and freeway. Fan was on #3 or 4.
I did notice that the air blowing from the vents did not "seem" as cold on the freeway as it did on city streets. I also "feel" that the fan was not moving as much air on the freeway compared to city. Guess I need to dig out the wind gauge to test that.
The temp gauge shouldn't lie, so the air in the vent is the same between city and freeway. Outside air temp does make a difference.
One other thing, as the temp is varying in the ranges, the pump clutch is cycling on and off. So the clutch seems to be working
So, is this about normal for my '14 to get these temps?
If not, I could buy or maybe rent a A/C gauge set and see what happens.
Also FWIW, the truck only has about 9500 miles. I don't drive much.
What do you think?
Thank you,
Tom
