I purchased a truck with a 429 engine swapped in and the engine has a HEI distributor (coil in distributor) but it has wires that go from the back of the distributor to the duraspark module. I have never seen this before. Can anyone tell me what kind of setup i have?
I'd pull the cap and check out the wiring. It is possible that it has been connected so that it uses the Duraspark box instead of the HEI module. Why that would be done? I don't know.
Might just be using the two power and ground wires from the small Duraspark module connector? And the others go nowhere?
I agree look to see if there is a GM module in the HEI
Maybe he was burning gm modules and just decided to mind meld it together
How many wires coming from the HEI? Maybe it's a computer command control C3 distributor and yes God only knows why

Ok, this sent me in the right direction. It appears they are just powering the distributor off of the duraspark harness and it is a stand alone HEI. The old duraspark distributor connector is loose elsewhere and there is a taped bundle of wires going to the HEI that probably includes the old coil wires and the power wire.
