Best value scan tool?

looking for a cell phone compatible scan tool, I have an iPhone so forscan is out the window unfortunately. What “wifi” scan tools are you guys using? A regular scan tool is perfectly fine but a wireless one is even better! Perks if it can perform a buzz test.

If you guys have any links or recommendations please let me know

I have the
OBDLink MX+ OBDLink MX+
and I've purchased Forscan for iOS, Android, and Windows. All work well.

If all you're looking for is the basic codes and a way to clear them, buy one of the Harbor Freight OBD2 code readers. But you actually want Forscan.

No problem using Bluetooth with the mx+ and Forscan lite on the Iphone 13. For more detailed scans I just break out the laptop and connect via bluetooth to the mx+ using Forscan regular.

  1. FORScan Lite
  2. CarGaugePro
  3. TorquePro

Those are my choices in that order. Although, I would most likely call Dionne Warwick and the Psychic Friends Network than EVER use TorquePro again.

As for hardware, I have two devices from the OBDLink catalogue that work flawlessly. There are others available like BAFX, but their name eludes me at the moment.

Call their support line from their website. I had an issue a year or 2 ago and couldn't believe the customer service I was given. Maybe it was a fluke idk, but the guy was extremally helpful and stuck with me until the issue was fixed. Even waited patently while I schlepped all my hardware out to the truck in the rain to connect and run some scans to be sure it was fixed.

OK, that was bad information. I have iProducts and it works fine but it costs $5 or so. I believe that the android version is free. For some reason, you need to use a WIFI adapter though, not bluetooth. I don't know why.

The PC/laptop full version of FORScan is free and can be downloaded from the FORScan website. The Android mobile version of FORScan (FORScan Lite or FSL) is a one time purchase of $5 from the Play Store. I believe that iPhone/Apple has a similar method based on the instructions noted below which were taken from the 7.3L PSD Tech Folder. They have been there for quite some time now. I don't use an iOS device and never will, I only know the previously stated information based on learning from others and what FORScan has published on their website.

Yeah, I don't relish the idea of iProducts myself but they are the ones that work the best with aviation software. Not that I think much of Google either, I wish there was a third, non-evil platform that worked well that I could switch to.

I used to administer/maintain iPads for our pilots when I was active duty, so I get it about the aviation software.

I don't even think lowly of Google, but as you mentioned our choices are limited at the moment. Anytime there is a third party that is up and coming the bigger companies buy them out when they become a threat and absorb them into their BS.

Hey y’all just thought I’d share, I bought this BAFX Products Wireless WiFi (OBDII) OBD2 Code Reader & Scan Tool / Wireless Check Engine Light Diagnostic Scan Tool for Cars & Trucks / for iOS. iPhone & Android Devices (1) https://a.co/d/gmME8iB obdII wifi scanner on Amazon for 26.99 and it works like a charm with FORSCAN, runs buzz tests and live monitoring of certain things through your Apple product 👍🏻👍🏻
