I am certainly no expert but doesn’t water sink to the bottom?

Maybe it biodiesel?

If you have been doing the fuel water separator drain on a regular basis and this is the first time you have had the result in your picture, then I would have to guess you got a bad load of fuel at your last fill up. To me that's a lot of water. If you have not notice and issues with your engine, then the filter and separator are doing their job. That said, I would have the fuel filters changed out. Even though I have never got any water in my samplings, I still had my fuel filters changed twice now. First at about 8600 miles and again at 30k miles. There are many who may say I am wasting money, but I see it as prudent preventative maintenance. Oh, check your fuel cap, especially if you frequent car wash places.

I have mine changed every 15k miles, or every third oil change.

Good catch. Maybe it's the new "light" water cuz they left out something to reduce the cost of manufacturing ....

I always drain it prolly close to once a month maybe a little longer and have never had anything in it. I do run a fuel additive since new hot shots edt maybe it did its job and helped separate it. I will run a fresh tank or 2 through and change the filters. I did notice it was a little sluggish but since than it has went back to normal

You got some bad fuel or a leak. That water looks rusty as if churned up from a steel tank though. Keep checking and changing, good catch!!

change the filtes asap. Too me it looks like gas.

After you change the filters, Do a prime and before starting, drain the separator again,

If it looks the same, drop and clean the tank. I think it is gas.

I don't think gasoline in diesel seperates in that same way. It mixes with diesel fairly well. To me it looks like dirty water.

Ford reprogramed my fuel pump now I can't change my filter.

Always checked my fuel water separator every month. Ford reprogrammed on a recall two weeks ago. Time to change my fuel water separator filter and when I opened the valve it would not stop dumping fuel. Used to dump out about a gallon. Today it dumped out 5 and still pouring out. No water in fuel but I've never filled up a 5 gal bucket before..... Any ideas?

What year truck? What was the recall? I haven't seen any fuel pump recalls.

open the valve and let it run from 15 to 20 seconds and close it. Then look at your sample. If clean you are done.

As for changing the filter, park the truck uphill and less than 1/4 tank and then change the filer. That should help so it does not keep draining

2019 f250 super duty. Fuel pump recall I think for 2017-2020 but it's just a reprogram for a thump noise sounding.
