Reverse but no forward!

I’ll try and make this as short as possible, 99’ 7.3 stock except stage one swamps injectors and stage 3 ATS trans. With heavy duty 5 star torque converter. Had problems out of the transmission when I first got the truck and had it completely rebuilt with even more billet parts and new clutches maybe 6 months ago? Well the past couple weeks it’s been very slow going into drive until the other day it took almost 30 min to catch drive. Once in drive it does fine like nothings wrong, I figured a solenoid pack so I changed them but still the same problem, still has reverse and acts fine once in drive even when you come to a stop, I’m at a loss maybe in the main valve body? Just looking for some help!

It certainly can't be the solenoid body. It's almost certainly a bad seal in the forward clutch.

It did this before but with reverse and my transmission guy replaced the solenoid pack and it fixed it until now which is why I thought it could be the solenoids. He shut down his shop so I can’t go back there now, but with it shifting like normal once it goes into drive I thought maybe a sticky valve. So it probably needs to be tore completely back apart and checked?

The solenoids are not used to engage drive. Even with the solenoid body unplugged, it will still go into gear.

It could also be the feedbolts. They are located between the main valve body and the case. If they loosen they can cause this. If not the feedbolts, then the trans needs to come out and get torn down to replace the seals in the forward clutch.

Okay thanks for the info I’m not sure I’m confident checking those with it in the truck, I know the check ***** would fall out and I’d be afraid I couldn’t figure out where they go back but I’ll see what I can do thanks again
