I have a new to me 2004 F350 6.0 4WD that is exhibiting some weird electrical behaviors. I have traced wiring diagrams to try and understand the possibilities. Here is what I have so far...
Everything works perfectly with the key in the run position.
Switch the key to off, and the engine stops, but all electrical remains active indefinitely, even when opening a door. I know the accessory delay relay should be triggered off by the instrument cluster microprocessor after 10 mins, or door opening. I know it stays on longer than 10 mins, or much longer.
If I open the door while the key is in the run position (engine running or not) and then turn the key to off, all electrical stops working with exception to the high mounted stop lamp (white light).
The high mounted stop lamp is controlled by the interior lights relay, not the battery saver-accessory delay circuit.
Interior Power door locks stop working (might be controlled by accessory delay?), and the exterior keypad stops working (should always be active right?)
It seems there are at least two issues, but they overlap. I'd like to see power at the exterior keypad entry system at all times, and I would like the accessories to turn off after 10 mins or when a door is opened. I can see how issues with the insturment panel and microprocessor would cause the accessory delay relay issues, but not the lack of power at the exterior keypad.
I get neither a key in ignition or door ajar light if I manually unlock the truck and put the key in.
If I turn it to on, and then off I get the key in ignition functionality. But actually only occasionally.
if I put key to on, open the door, then turn to off…It all goes out again.
Seems the ignition switch might be part of the issue. Not sure why that would affect accessory relay, or any door locks, and especially not the exterior keypad.
