Another Dome Light Problem

The other day I noticed the dome light was staying on with key off and doors closed. I did the WD40 spray on the door latches, mine is a CC with no luck at all. I have replaced the driver's side door latch an door ajar switch to no avail. With the key in the on position the dome light works just like it should, turn key off dome light comes on and stays on even after closing the door several times. Radio does turn off. If I disconnect the battery negative poles and reconnect them dome lights go out and stays out, I can open and close all four doors and light stays out. If I cycle the key off to on and back the stupid light will come on and not go out unless I pull battery power again. Everything else door locks, power windows and mirrors, radio goes off when door opens all work as they should. There is no door ajar problem either. So has anyone had this problem? Please ask all the questions you can because at this point I am totally confused.

Have you messed with your instrument cluster dimmer? There should be some way over there like the older trucks were you can manually turn the dome lights on. I am wondering what position that switch is in.

I wish it was that easy but it's not. The dome light works just like it is suppose to with the engine running but turn engine off and then it wants to play games. It will not come on at all no matter what you do then it works fine with the key fob. Open door it will remain off no matter what. I also noticed the trailer brake controller stays on all the time unless I disconnect the ground. It's a Tekonsha P3. I've check the fuses and relays with no luck either. With a crew cab is there anyway to know what door could be suspect?

You will have to figure out where the vehicle security module is, I am not sure where it is located in your truck. Each door switch grounds a particular wire that goes to the security module, and then that module communicates over the network in the truck to the instrument cluster computer. The instrument cluster module activates the interior lights relay which turns on all the interior lights.

Door ajar switch driver's side rear is lightgreen yellow, pin 11

Door ajar switch pass side rear is pink/lightblue pin 6

Door ajar switch driver's side front is yellow/black pin 4

Door ajar switch pass side front is grey/red pin 5

Dave, Thanks for the help I really hate this kind of problem. I think it may be something in the instrument cluster, if it is I could just live with the stupid dome light on or off but it's also causing the brake controller light to stay on all the time. I haven't had time to mess with it and probably won't till this weekend.

Double check how the brake controller is wired. Several people lately on here have revealed how they wire stuff in vehicles, and I do not like it. They poke around with a testlight or meter till they find a wire that acts like they want it to, and just tie into it, not knowing at all what circuit they are tying into and what the wire is actually for.

I would run a DEDICATED wire to the fuse panel for the P3. Then see what happens.

I have really been under the weather for about 5 days now and am finally starting to feel a little better so hope I can get on it soon. The dome light will only go out by locking and unlocking the doors with the key fob leaving the doors in the locked position. I did manage to talk with Tekonsha about the brake controller staying on, may be a separate problem related to brake switch. I hope to get on it soon.

I used my AutoEnginuity to run a check on all four doors they all checked good. They all show open and closed when they were suppose to anyway, guess that only tells me the door ajar switches are working. What gets me is that everything will work perfectly for about three or four door openings and then go back to being off. Starting to look like a VSM or maybe dashpanel and I hope I am wrong.

I really hate posting over and over but I also hate living with a problem like this because I know my luck, this will probably bite me in the butt when I least suspect it. The dome light problem keeps changing. Everything else works 4.0 and I did get the trailer brake controller panel light working like it should. It's down to the dome light will not come on unless you make it light with key on, key fob or dimmer wheel it even goes out on it's own sometimes after about 10 minutes though.
Still would like to hear from some of you people, maybe I should slide this up to a busier area, what do you think Franklin2?

Don't hesitate to post your problem in the correct year area above for your 2002. Someone with a newer truck like yours may have had this problem and knows a solution.
